Northwoods Compass welcomes you to one of Hayward's most precious treasures, Bay Lodge at the Isle of Pines. Bay Lodge and 2 smaller cabins called Beach Side and Summer Place are privately owned cabins on a private island on Little Sissabagama Lake. The setting is incredible as the lodge sits on a point at the SE part of the island surrounded by tall pines. It has stunning views to the lake from 3 sides, a giant enclosed wrap around porch, a wood stove, master gas fireplace, and decorated with items that connect to the rich history of the island, lake and the people that impacted the area. The main lodge called Bay Lodge sits high above the water and offers lake views from 3 sides. The wrap around porch is massive with a large dining table, table games and a cute set of bunks in the corner for sleeping. Bay Lodge has 5 BRs and 2 full baths (and outdoor shower) on 3 levels, which includes a sleeping loft and bunks on the porch. The master BR is really cool, located on the main level with King bed, gas fireplace and private deck.

There are 2 other cabins that you may rent in addition to the lodge for larger groups. Both are located within 200 ft of the lodge. Beach Side Cabin has a set of bunks, one twin bed, and 1/2 bath. Summer Place Cabin has 2 twin beds, full bath, small fridge, screen porch and outdoor shower.

The grounds are incredible. You have 900 ft of private shoreline for swimming with multiple beaches, a nearby sand bar, walking paths, multiple landing areas for boats, abundant deck chairs, hammock at lakeside, horseshoe pit, firepit with wood all within tall pines and natural vegetation. Many water toys are provided: a canoe, small aluminum fishing boat with motor, and hydrobike. A pontoon is available for rent as well.

The history of this place is a great story. The lake itself is an old glacial depression surrounded by a series of hills with giant pines. You have other uninhabited islands on the lake. Sissabagama means "Lake of Many Bays" which offer great wildlife viewing habitat as you boat, canoe or kayak. Little Siss is a 325 acre wilderness lake due to its uniques features, plants and life forms. The water quality is excellent, it is a Class A Musky Lake and has been protected over the last 100 years since the lake has limited residents and there is no public landing. As an Isle of Pines guest, you have access to our private landing to moor your boat, park your cars and access the island. No jet skiing is allowed, nor is any motor greater than 90 HP allowed on the lake.

The history of this special place starts when the Soo Line was completed in 1908 bringing tourists to the area. Did you know that Joe Louis, the famous boxer, trained at a location on the lake? The original Raggedy Ann story was written in a boathouse on this island. This island hosted many a black tie affair at the large dance/dining hall. Bay Lodge and the smaller cabins were built in 2000 and 2004 so it has all the modern conveniences for you and your guests.

There are 2 full baths in Bay Lodge and an outdoor shower.
  Summer Place: This cabin has 2 twins, full bath and outdoor shower.
  Beach Side: This cabin has bunks, one twin and ½ bath.

  * Private boat landing for island access, multiple docks, free use of canoe, hydro-bike and small fishing boat without motor, 20 ft pontoon with 60 HP motor may be rented for 800 per week plus gas, no jet skis allowed, no motor more than 90 HP is allowed on the lake.

  * Awesome lake views, multiple docks and swim areas, nice hard sand bottom along shoreline, adjacent sand bar, private lake access and parking

• Communications

  * Telephone on site, free long distance, free internet, all at Bay Lodge, no communications at smaller cabins.

  * There are a total of 3 cabins that may be rented based on the number of guests. Bay Lodge has a huge wrap around screen porch with ping pong table; Summer Place cabin has a small screen porch.
